Eads Family Mystery

During the fourth of July weekend, the family took a trip to good ol' West Virginia. Aunt Sue, the family historian, organized a major extended family Eads family reunion. She learned about our ancestor, Andrew J. Eads, who served in the civil war and that he had many ties to West Virginia. She made it a nice family reunion, while researching more about our family in West Virginia. Many of our extended cousins still live in West Virginia! Aunt Sue and others brought much of their information about the Eads' line and we were all able to learn from each other. I really didn't have anything to contribute to the party, but I sure learned a lot!

For instance.

My maiden name, Eads, traces back to a female! In 1817, Elizabeth Eads had a son (Andrew Eads) with a horse-stealing man named Thomas Luster. They never married so it was her last name that was past down to Andrew instead of Thomas'. Good thing for me! If they had been married, then I would have grown up with my name being Rachael Luster. Yuck. So now the BIG MYSTERY of the family is: who were Elizabeth Eads' parents? Because she was poor and unmarried, she barely was found in any official documentation except for Andrew's saying that she was his mother and that she was living with her sister, Susan, and her husband, Mr. Carter. All that we know for sure is that they lived in Maryland. So close!
