Celebrate Good Times!

We have a home! It's been a long time coming, lots of frustration, excitement and planning. Last Thursday, we met filled out all the paperwork from 2 till 3. Then we waited for an hour and a half for the county to approve the neighborhood stabilization program. To sum up my frustrations, I was thoroughly disgusted with the selling agent and the county's down payment assistance program. I would not recommend such a program in the future. Our agent said she could have got us as just as good a deal if she had more freedom to do her job.

Now it's a done deal. As we were leaving and taking Rachael back to school we turned on the radio and heard, "Celebrate good times, c'mon!" It was perfect.

Next step is to get to where we would feel comfortable moving in. We probably will focus on the floors and painting the walls. There are some electrical things I will be working on, there is no plug in the bathroom and all the plugs upstairs have no ground plug. Our first priority though is to get the heater to stay on. We got it on but it only stays on for a few minutes. I changed the thermostat thinking that it might be failing to signal the heater that the house is cold. No luck. At least the new thermostat is not filled with dead bugs.

On that note, we had the exterminator come yesterday and fumigate, spray and bait for roaches. With the blizzard, they were happy to come. No one else wanted to leave their home for three hours. Now we need to wait to let it soak in and do it's job before we scrub, prime and paint. In the meantime, I just finished tearing up the carpet so Rachael and I have plenty of tack boards to remove and staples to pull out so we can refinish the floor. We like the hard wood even though it's not new. We figure the stains will add some character.
